Summer wrap up, Big Fall Plans, and My Artist Journey, Pt. 3
Silver Age 2026 is in the books!
I was another wonderful convention (big shout out to Colossus Girl Entertainment) in the Silver State! Met some new fans as well as some cool creators! Offered up some advice to some inspired creators who needed an extra boost, so hoping the Writing for Comics videos helped. Hope to see their creations at a con soon.
Big Fall plans!
Next up is a busy October! On the 9th, Jason and I will be at Log Off Brewery for a soft debut of Hellforce: Golem, the 2nd in the Hellforce limited series! We’ll both be on hand to sign books and offer a special book, pint glass, and pour package for just $25! These are limited so be sure and show up early, get a book, and lift a pint!
The next day on October 10th Scattered Comics celebrates its 35th anniversary at Comics and Collectibles! El Presidente Jason Dube will be there along with James Burton, Miss Misery and and I to sign books, chat with fans, and enjoy the party!
Aaaand the weekend after that, October 17 the 18, Bez Krila and I will be back for Ohana Con at the Blue Lake Resort and our last con of the year (I think!)

Dime Grinds interview!
One of the great things about comic conventions is you get to meet awesome creators, and a couple years ago, I had the chance to meet Tonya Todd, a member of the Henderson Writers Group and wonderful human who works in many media avenues and co-editor of Comics Lit.
We talked about my Dr Dream comic as well as her book, and long story short, she invited me to be on the Group’s Dime Grinds podcast, which features author’s reading their books and discussing their writer’s journeys. Earlier this year, she reached out to me to schedule a day, and it just so happen to be the day before I headed to Reno for Silver Age 2026. It was an amazing experience as not only was I able to read Dr Dream #4, but I was also able to share my writer’s origin story with members of the Henderson Writer’s Group. I enjoyed it so much I decided to join! Here is my segment of the podcast. Shout out to Audrey Balzart, president of the Group, for making this video possible!
My Artist Journey, Pt. 3
So if you’ve watched the video, you’ve probably got a good sense of my journey. I will say it probably wasn’t until I retired from teaching that I discovered I had time to pursuit all of the different creative avenues I desired. Foremost was to make time for both writing and art. In 2024, I published a collection of short stories called Amazing Tales, but I wasn’t satisfied with just the writing pieces; I wanted to do the art. So for each story, I created a graphic in the medium that I thought best represented the tone of the story. For example, the story Last Bite is about a vampire who is the last person on Earth after a plague has decimated human life on the planet. For the art piece, I envisioned a simple sumi painting of a vampire accepting fate, reaching towards the morning light. For A Robot for the Prosecution, I used colored pencils and created a visual as a court artist would use as a house robot takes the stand as the sole witness to a murder. And when it came to designing the cover, a pastel and pen and ink hybrid of two deep space explorers discovering an interstellar dragon sitting on a collection of books was the right amount of bizarre and whimsey to set the tone for the contents.

And that brings us to today where I balance both writing and art on a rotating basis—two days of art, two days of writing. One genre inspiring the other.
